LMS INSPECTION SALOON

This vehicle was built at Derby Carriage and Wagon Works in
1927 and originally numbered 5033.
Finally withdrawn in November 1960, it was converted for use on the West Coast
Main Line Electrification Scheme and returned to service as DM395707 in December
1961.
The vehicle was condemned in January 1965 and later modified for use of the
London Midland Region's General Manager only and kept a Euston ready for use.
On the 7th May 1974 it was the last vehicle in the Royal Train formation
conveying HM The Queen and the
Duke of Edinburgh when they inspected the newly electrified West Coast Main Line
between Preston and Glasgow.
Upon withdrawal it was purchased by Pete Waterman in 1997 and painted maroon. It
was later purchased by Alliance Trains in April 1997 for use on their charter
services and painted blue.
Becoming surplus to their requirements in was purchased by the Princess Royal
Class Locomotive Trust in April 2001. It has since been repaired, overhauled and
repainted in LMS livery and now operates as a special saloon.
The Works Open Day Event between the 23rd and 25th August will
provide a unique opportunity for visitors to enjoy the experience of traveling
in this coach as part of our timetabled services for which a supplementary fare
will be payable.
